28 Oct 00:14

Choose a tag to compare

This release includes new support for GNIRS cross-dispersed data. Full support from raw data to telluric and flux calibrated data is available. All GNIRS cross-dispersed configurations are supported. This release builds upon the GNIRS longslit support introduced in DRAGONS V4.0.0.

Improvements to various algorithms, especially wavelength calibration, have been made. Various bug fixes and documentation improvements are also included.

DRAGONS 4.0 - New Support for GNIRS Longslit Spectroscopy

05 May 19:52

Choose a tag to compare

This major release includes new support for near-infrared spectroscopic data. Specifically, we are introducing support for GNIRS longslit data.

GNIRS longslit data reduction can now be performed in DRAGONS. Full support from raw data to telluric and flux calibrated data is available. All GNIRS wavebands are supported, X, J, H, K, as well as L and M. All three dispersers, 10 l/mm, 32 l/mm, and 111 l/mm are supported.

The software offers algorithms and tools to help with the wavelength calibration. Wavelength calibrations from arc lamp, OH and O_2 sky lines, and from telluric features are all supported. The tutorial includes a guide to help you choose the best wavelength calibration method for your data.

Algorithms and tools are includes to help with the measurement of the telluric model and the sensitivity function and then for the correction of the telluric features present in the data.

This patch release includes improvements to speed up and increase the success rate of wavelength calibration for GMOS and includes fixes to the GHOST data reduction software and documentation.

DRAGONS v3.2 Release with Integrated Support for GHOST

25 May 01:15

Choose a tag to compare

DRAGONS v3.2.0 is now available.

This release includes the long awaited support for the new GMOS-S CCDs. It also contains a fully integrated support for GHOST.

Regarding GHOST, the old DRAGONS v3.0 + GHOSTDR should NOT be used anymore. It will no longer be supported. Please use DRAGONS v3.2.

The release note is here:
https://dragons.readthedocs.io/en/stable/releasenotes.html

For a summary of the changes see:
https://dragons.readthedocs.io/en/stable/changes.html

With this release, DRAGONS supports:

  • GHOST spectrograph
  • GMOS longslit spectograph, including nod-and-shuffle mode
  • GMOS imager
  • NIRI imager
  • GSAOI imager
  • F2 imager

For all the data coming from the instruments and modes above, this software, DRAGONS, should be used instead of the Gemini IRAF package.

We encourage users to review and try the various tutorials that are available for each type of data.

DRAGONS v3.1.0 is finally available.

This is a big update.  At long last, GMOS longslit for science is available, including longslit nod-and-shuffle.

But there's a lot more still in that release.

  • New recipes.
  • New tutorials.
  • Improved calibration manager.
  • GSAOI stacking within DRAGONS.  Goodbye disco_stu.
  • BPMs from the archive and associated like calibrations.
  • Compatibility with Python 3.10 and removed dependencies on STScI's astroconda.

The release note is here:  https://dragons.readthedocs.io/en/stable/releasenotes.html
[Strongly recommended] For a summary of the changes see:  https://dragons.readthedocs.io/en/stable/changes.html

With this release, DRAGONS offers support for Science Quality reduction of:

  •  GMOS imager
  •  NIRI imager
  • GSAOI imager
  •  F2 imager
  •  GMOS longslit spectrograph

For imaging and GMOS longslit spectroscopy, this software should be used instead of the Gemini IRAF package.  Given all the changes, especially to the calibration manager and the handling of the BPMs, we strongly recommend that even experienced users review the tutorials.

This patch release includes several small fixes and improvements, many
related to the Quality Assessment Pipeline run internally at Gemini.
Provenance for flux calibration is now included. The patch is recommended
to all but not critical for most.

DRAGONS 3.0 patch release for GMOS-S amp failure

08 Jul 20:16

Choose a tag to compare

This patch adds better handling of the GMOS-S data following the January failure of amplifier number 5. For that data, the whole amplifier is automatically masked as bad pixels ensuring that those pixels are not used in calculations. The patch also includes bug fixes, small improvements, and fixes to the documentation.

Along with several improvements and fixes to the imaging support, this new version of DRAGONS offers new support for GMOS longslit spectroscopy for quick-look purposes. This new support has not yet been approved for science quality reduction but lays the ground for it. People with GMOS longslit data wanting to have a quick reduction to assess the data can use this version in quicklook mode. See https://dragons.readthedocs.io/en/v3.0.0/ for additional information.
