Continuation of the cochlear nerve inside the brain. This is located at the dorsolateral junction of the pons and medulla, entering the brainstem medial to the inferior cerebellar peduncle and restiform body1, 2. Structurally, it forms a wedge-shaped bundle of myelinated fibers that bifurcate upon entry, sending ascending and descending branches into the ventral cochlear nucleus, which it divides into anteroventral and posteroventral regions1, 2. This arrangement enables efficient routing of auditory signals from the cochlea into the brainstem for further processing
